Where AI stops and a strategist starts

By Paige Goodwin, Ruckus Collective · August 2026 · 5 min read

Almost everyone has AI now. The advantage is no longer the tool. It is knowing where it stops.

The tool is now table stakes

In 2026, around nine in ten marketing teams use AI in their work. When everyone has the same leverage, having it is no longer an edge. What separates good marketing from generic marketing is the judgement wrapped around it.

What AI is genuinely good at

Speed, volume, and the middle of the process. Drafting, repurposing, summarising, pulling data together, testing variations. Given a clear brief, it is fast and tireless. Lean on it there.

What still needs a human

The brief and the final call. Positioning, knowing your customer, the strategic trade-off, protecting the brand voice, and owning the number. These are judgement, and judgement does not come out of a model. It is why accuracy is the risk marketers name first, and why most keep a person across anything that carries the brand.

The Ruckus way

We use AI for leverage, so senior people spend their time on thinking rather than admin. The strategy, the creative call and the number stay with people who have done this for decades. That is the line. AI makes us faster. It does not make the decisions.
